Parkdale Market area
This area extends North and South from Wellington Street West between Parkdale and Holland Avenues with the Tunney's Pasture government campus to the North, and the Queensway to the South.
Parkdale Market area features:
• Wellington St. West between Holland and Parkdale: which includes the new Irving Greenberg Theatre Centre (home of the Great Canadian Theatre Company) plus several chic restaurants and salons, plus a hardware store, a drug store, an old art-deco movie theatre building (now a church), one of Ottawa's last urban bowling allies, and a cluster of businesses in the beautiful old Fire Station on Parkdale.
• The Parkdale Market: one of only two city-run permanent markets in Ottawa, the Parkdale Market features farm-fresh products during the spring, summer, and fall, plus special seasonal offerings during spring, fall, and Christmas seasons. In addition, the Market park is the hub for neighbourhood celebrations and socializing.
• The Parkdale-to-Holland area: this old industrial area has been converted into a hive of galleries, multimedia studios, and loft apartments, which rub shoulders with the market itself, the Beer Store, and the old Carleton Tavern – one of Ottawa's few remaining big-hearted blue-collar taverns.
• Holland Avenue: features a strip of businesses and restaurants leading from Holland Cross to the corner of Wellington West and Holland with the GCTC and the iconic World of Maps building. |
