This year the event has been switched from the Spring to the Autumn to take advantage of the harvest bounty and all the delicious fresh fruits, vegetables and seasonal foods available at Parkdale Market and from our local food shops and restaurants. An Urban Food Experience… TASTE OF WELLINGTON WEST SATURDAY, SEPTEMBER 26, 2009 1:30 – 3:30 pm Enjoy free food samples from dozens of amazing restaurants and food shops along Wellington St W, from Island Park Drive to Somerset St W, and experience a taste of Wellington West! For food lovers and urban sensualists this is an event not to be missed. And this year the number of participating eateries is higher than ever with 32 venues on the menu. Additionally, many other area shops will be holding sidewalk sales, and Westboro Massage will set up a streetside massage station so contented foodies can tend to their tired limbs after treating their taste buds! Street performers and live music will be part of the mix as well, with local legend Barry Buse and his band Still Dangerous rocking it up, outside of the Elmdale House Tavern. Admission is free. There are dozens of participating shops and restaurants, including several acclaimed new arrivals on our local epicurean landscape, such as A’roma Meze (tapas), Sushi Umi (sushi, of course!) and Credible Edibles (an entirely organic deli). Herb & Spice Food Shop will be kicking off its 36th anniversary celebration. We’ll also get a preview of Viva Loca, the new café opening on October 1st in the lobby of the Great Canadian Theatre Company, at the corner of Holland and Wellington. But that’s just the tip of the ice cream, er, iceberg. For in all there are no less than 32 restaurants, caterers and specialty food shops offering free samples as part of Taste of Wellington West. Though of course, visitors are also welcome to stay for a full lunch or dinner, and to come back again once they have discovered a new favourite spot! To the east, the first stop is Khatoon Persian Restaurant, at Irving and Wellington. To the west, the terminus is Istanbouli, our local middle-eastern grill. In between you will find nouvelle cuisine and retro diners, superb coffee shops and the Parkdale Market, as well as Thai, Italian, French, Latin and other ethnic restaurants. You’ll also find organic food shops and several of the city’s very best bakeries. Across from Istanbouli, the newly opened Renu Massage Therapy & Spa will offer free ‘taster services’ such as chair massages, skin analysis, hand and arm massage, and sample giveaways (1432 Wellington St West). This is an all-out community event that the whole city is invited to enjoy. Art lovers are also welcome to take in the West End Studio Tour while en route, with many local artist studios open to visitors before, during and after Taste of Wellington hours. (www.westendstudiotour.ca) Please note that cash or non-perishable food donations are being accepted at all Taste of Wellington venues on behalf of the Parkdale Food Centre, a local food bank. This event is being sponsored by the Wellington West Business Improvement Area. Our aim is to showcase the quality and variety of cuisines available in our area. We also want to let people know that despite the disruptions caused by Phase 2 of the road reconstruction that has been happening along Wellington St West this past summer, our fabulous shops and restaurants are open for business! So don’t miss these free samples -- pulled pork bite-sized sandwiches from Wellington Gastropub, The Foolish Chicken’s chicken soup, fish patties from Siam Bistro, fresh papaya and organic dates at Herb and Spice, homemade marshmellows from Thyme & Again, to name a few, or any of the other dozens of yummy treats that await… plan your visit to Wellington West today!
